Once you reach the milestone of week 22 of your pregnancy, you may have some concerns about how your baby looks if you’ve just had an ultrasound. In fact, your baby might actually look more like an old person with all those wrinkles than a baby, but there’s a good reason for that.
What to Expect with Physiological Development
Now your baby is about 11 inches long, almost an entire foot (which makes him nearly a ‘ruler’). He’s also beginning to actually look like a newborn, just a smaller version. He’s beginning to show the definition between the lips, eyelids, and eyebrows.
Your 22 Week Ultrasound
This is one of the reasons why so many new moms choose to get another ultrasound at week 22, even if they just had one a couple of weeks earlier for the second-trimester ultrasound.
There’s just so much more to notice about your baby at this time. So what about that wrinkly skin? This is due to the fact that your baby’s skin is growing faster than he can fill it out. Don’t worry, though, this isn’t a curious case of Benjamin Button or anyone else; it’s simply the natural process that will change over time.
Changes in You
Now you’ll begin to notice how many people are actually putting their hands on your belly. It can be a wonderfully joyous occasion, but it can also be somewhat unsettling at times. You might also notice more body hair growth and that your skin is beginning to appear healthier than ever.
It’s important that you keep your skin properly moisturized throughout your pregnancy, though. As for that hair on your chin, upper lip, and even your cheeks, don’t get too stressed about that; it’s not permanent.
You may also notice larger or darker nipples and areolas. That’s your body’s way of getting ready to fight off bacteria and lubricate the skin.
What You Should be Doing
As for your nipples, nothing. You may also notice deeper and darker veins on your breasts. Again, do nothing about this. It’s your body’s way of getting ready for this pregnancy.
You may want to pay attention to your rings right now. Your fingers may begin to swell and that means you might have to take off your wedding ring and other jewelry. Instead, wear your wedding ring on a chain around your neck.
Ending Week 22
Keep eating healthy, avoid getting upset about those stretch marks, and keep exercising with low-impact activities.
